Advent Calendar Day 6: Call to Holiness
"And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed" (Rom 13:11 KJV).

Did you feel the urgency of the Apostle Paul's words in Rom 13:11a when he said, "Now it is high time to awake out of sleep"? Discern the season! He admonished
the Roman Christian community to be ready spiritually, for the day of salvation is closer than believed. Jesus similarly impressed upon His disciples to "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh" (Matt 24:44).
Paul didn't leave the new converts without their next steps to readiness. In a forthright manner, he told them how to prepare: Cast off the work of darkness; put on the armor of light; walk honestly; and put on the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom 13:12-14; cf. Eph 6:14-17). Everything comes together in Jesus. We continually put on Jesus--cloth ourselves in Him--to refrain from giving rise to the flesh.
God called us to holiness (1 Pet 1:15). Ephesians 4:24 (NLT) says, "Put on your new nature, created to be like God--truly righteous and holy." In wearing Christ, we reflect His righteousness and message of salvation to others. Thus, we must shed darkness and live in the light. Let His indwelt Light guide a walk that will honor Him!
