Advent Calendar Day 4: Journey Faithfully

"‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!' Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”(Luke 19:38 NKJV).

Luke 19 opened with Jesus making the final journey from Galilee into Jerusalem (v.1). He descended into Mt. Olives on colt, where the whole multitude of His disciples rejoiced and praised God for the miracles they witnessed (v. 37-38). It was a time of celebration for Jesus' triumphant entry.

Jesus knew of His destiny to follow in Jerusalem. Prior to entering the city, He reminded His disciples of the events that awaited them concerning the Son of Man as written by the prophets (vv. 31-34). He faced delivery to the Gentiles, scourging, and death (vv. 32-33). Jesus continued faithfully in His journey, nonetheless. It culminated in His glorious resurrection as the risen Savior.

Christ followers also must journey faithfully to the advent of salvation in our present and future responses to the Kingdom of God. We must model ourselves after the blind man who persistently sought Jesus to receive his sight. Jesus said, "Receive thy sight: thy faith have saved thee" (18:42). After Jesus had restored the man's sight, he followed Him and glorified God (v. 43). The man who once had little gained much. Likewise trusting Christ in faith, following Him, and giving God praise and honor supports our journey with His spiritual riches.

Three preparation take alongs for the journey: Trust, follow, and praise!
